One of the most important efforts we make is to educate the community of dog owners about preventative care for their animals in Costa Rica. Our main focus is on the importance of spaying and neutering animals to prevent overpopulation and unwanted animals. When there are too many dogs and cats being born and not enough resources to care for them, it becomes tragic very quickly. Dogs cannot survive without humans, and they depend on us to feed them and keep them healthy.
There are so many other dangers to be aware of in this rural, tropical area as well, from tick fever to heartworm to distemper and parvo. Through awareness, we hope to increase preventative medicine use to avoid these diseases, and the tragedies that are a result, as much as possible.

Our goals for future education initiatives include organizing vet visits where people from the community can come to listen to advice, see demonstrations or ask questions; partnering with local schools to give educational presentations; and improving the educational material at our clinics with both print material and video instructions.
